Pondicherry cont. (Pictures)

Here is the little hotel room.  One does not need much!
A do not pee in the street sign.
Floral pattern outside the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Me in front of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
Jesus, as you walk in.
The windows were all stunning.

This is the ceiling before the entrance of the Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple.  No pics were allowed inside.
The outside of the Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple.
Statues in front of the Museum of Pondicherry.  Again, no pics inside.
Some ancient petrified wood.
This is me with a bindi/tilaka.  We we marked at the Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple.
Plans for the Matrimandir construction.
More plans for the Matrimandir construction.
Planning for Auroville's landscape.
The stunning tree before the Matrimandir.  As you can see, all the surrounding trees are connected to it.
Me and the Matrimandir!

This is one of many rock signs telling the spiritual meaning of a certain flower.  The Mother assigned meanings to 800 flowers.  Though no pics were allowed, the Sri Aurobindo/The Mother Ashram's main focus was a huge worship space made of flowers.
Local art.  The peacock is a symbol of India.
Pondicherry beach!
Local street art.  There were many of these stand-alone figures painted all over.
Me next to Gandhi.

Live chickens waiting to be purchased, slaughtered, cooked, and eaten.
On the way to Paradise Beach!

A huge sink in a public bathroom at the bus station.  This bathroom was an experience.  First, you had to pay two rupees to get in.  Next, there was a huge line.  Third, two dudes I met while waiting introduced themselves and shook my hand.  Before I knew what was happening, one of them proceeded to reach out and pinch my cheek like he was my grandmother.  Needless to say, I moved away from him and hand-sanitized my face.  Fourth, people were showering in the stalls despite the fact that there was only a squat toilet and a water pipe next to the ground.
Vikram and me sitting on the bus together.  He sold me a pendant and spoke 5 languages.  He travels all over to sell his works.  Interesting dude.
This man is cleaning a machine in the BHC kitchen.
Frying chapati.
Curd milk still boiling.
These are rice steamers.
These are cooks, standing next to an idly steamer.
This was some kind of vegetable chopper.
It is hard to see, but here is the washroom with all the pots and stuff drying on the ground.  The area is open to the outside.
Vegetable storage.
Here is a man tending a fire.  This fire boils water that produces steam.  The steam travels through 100-foot-long pipes inside to all of the rice and idly steamers.  During lunch, the other steamer is going as well.
A rickshaw used to transport food to the girls' mess hall.  All the food is prepared in the kitchens of the above pics which is inside the male mess hall.
A huge pot of sambar that will serve 1,500 people.
Me and the dude in charge of flour and dough.
